I’m Karmen aka @MissK_J6. And I’m addicted to desserts; moreover I’m addicted to health and fitness! And yes you CAN have both! I have always had a sweet tooth, always. And I found it very difficult to embark on my health and fitness journey with continuous deep “dark” thoughts of delicious red velvet brownies and cheesecake.
I love dessert, like love LOVE! So I had to find away to marry health and fitness with unhealthy treats and sweets! And that’s how MissK started. I started my Instagram page @MissK_J6 in 2013, as a “recipe book” and a way to stay on track with my fitness journey. And from there it flourished into something beautiful. I never expected it to grow so much! So to make things a little easier for you, I decide to start a blog for easier navigation to my recipes.
I love putting a MissK twist on traditional desserts. Most of my recipes contain ingredients like protein powder; healthier fat options and I always try to sneak veggies into my recipes, like zucchini or even black beans and chickpeas! My recipes are aimed at everyone who wants that sweet treat we all crave after dinner (or if your like me throughout the day too!) But these treats will help YOU to stay fit and healthy, whilst allowing yourself to “indulge!” I do have free meals (cheat meals) and will upload those recipes as well, as I do believe in having what you enjoy in moderation! I am not strictly vegan, vegetarian, raw or gluten free etc but I try to cater for all diets and many of my recipes will be suitable for your diet. I love to experiment in the kitchen and find a lot of inspiration in understanding different styles of diets.
I am a self-taught cook (I did do hospitality in high-school and remember how to julienne carrots but that about as much a can remember haha). I have had a lot of inspiration from my family. From a young age I always loved cooking with them, like many families we are very much a “foodie” family. We LOVE food! I also get a lot of inspiration from all over the interwebs! There are so many amazing recipe creators out there! However, I do spend a lot of time going through the trial and error process myself, and I have some of the best critics (my brother) to tell me whether or not I have created something great!
I will also try and include my workout routines, as that is a BIG side of my life as well. I’ll share as much or as little as you like, as in the end this blog is for YOU! So please let me know what you love and would like to see.
A little about me:
I’m born and bred in Australia! I won’t bore you with the ins and outs of my childhood, but during high school I met the person who changed my life forever, my husband. Andy lived behind my best friend, and he and I were immediately inseparable. We were engaged 10 years later and tied the knot in 2012. He is brilliant. He is my rock and he love health and fitness just as much as I do! He also is my personal trainer!
As a full time medical student creating this space and my Instagram is something that gave me balance, studying can completely consume you and having a creative release is what I needed to get me through 7 years of university. Yes that’s right 7 years! I have completed a Bachelor of Medical Science with honours in Pathology and will complete my Medical Degree at the end of this year. It has been a long road and how I got into medicine is a story in itself. Maybe I’ll write a post about it one day. But when I say you can do anything you set your sights on, trust me YOU CAN DO IT!
